Synopsis: This book records the unification of the twelve tribes of Israel under King David’s rule, David’s many battles, sins, family strife and his dedication and reliance on the LORD during all his political, military and personal experiences.
When Written: Around 1017 B.C.
Chapters 1-10 record the unification of Israel under David and his wars and victories.
Chapters 11-12 records David’s sexual sin that led to the murder of an innocent man and the death of a baby.
Chapters 13-20 tells the sad story of rebellion against David resulting in his fleeing Jerusalem, the death of his son and his return to the throne in Jerusalem.
Chapters 21-24 deals with a poor decision on David’s part that led to a punishment from God in the form of pestilence.
