2 Kings

Synopsis: The history of the two Hebrew nations and their kings is recorded in this book. Some of the kings were wicked and idolatrous and some of them were righteous and following the LORD. Eventually, the northern kingdom was conquered and taken into the nation Assyria. The southern kingdom, or Judah, lasted a little longer but was eventually taken into captivity by the nation Babylon. The prophet Elijah was miraculously taken into heaven in his physical body and his successor, Elisha,was left to combat the wickedness of the people.

When Written: Around 590 B.C.

Key Verse: And I will forsake the remnant of mine inheritance, and deliver them into the hand of their enemies, and they shall become a prey and a spoil to all their enemies, Because they have done that which was evil in my sight, and have provoked me to anger, since the day their fathers came forth out of Egypt, even unto this day. 2 Kings 21:14-15
