Synopsis: The book of Acts is thought to be a letter from Luke, the physician, to an attorney named Theophilus, who was to represent Paul in his trial before Caesar in Rome. In this book, Luke lays out the story of the history of the church from Jesus’ resurrection to the arrest and imprisonment of the Apostle Paul. In verse 1 of chapter 1 the former treatise Luke refers to is most likely the Gospel of Luke in which he describes the life and ministry of the Lord Jesus Christ. In the book of Acts, Luke is describing the life and ministry of Paul. There is no ending to this book as Paul had not yet been executed at the time it was written, and more importantly, the ministry of Paul never ended and is ongoing today by the true believers in the Christian church.
Key Verse: Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ. Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do? Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. Acts 2:36-38
