Synopsis: This book records the history of the southern nation, Judah, beginning with King Solomon’s reign over Israel and the splitting of the kingdom into two nations after his death, to the people of Judah being conquered by King Nebuchadnezzar and then carried away into captivity to the nation Babylon. It starts with the building and dedication of the Temple in Jerusalem and ends with the burning of the Temple by the Babylonians. Judah’s many kings and their reigns are documented along with their rebellion against the LORD which ultimately lead to the fall and captivity of the nation.
Chapters 1-9 tell about King Salomon and the building of the Temple.
Chapters 10- 28 is the history of Judah up to the reign and death of King Ahaz.
Chapters 29- 35 records the restoration of the temple and the restored worship of God after the finding of the book of the law that Moses had recorded.
Chapter 36 records King Nebuchadnezzar’s conquering of Judah and resultant captivity.
